So back when the days were long, the weather was warm and all was well with the world (aka summer), berries were in-season and, therefore, extremely affordable.

Affordable enough that I filled a good portion of our freezer with delicious blueberries.

Nevermind the fact that the only thing we ever use blueberries for are pancakes.

After five months of Saturday blueberry pancakes, we had used exactly one and a half bags.

At that rate, we would have been set for the next 4-ish years.

Because I would like to buy fresh blueberries again this summer and because Mr. Torres always (fine, not always, but often) gets on to me for filling the freezer up with food that I don’t use and because we were going over to a friend’s house to play games on Saturday afternoon aaand because I love cookies, I decided to give blueberry cookies a stab.

I had two potential recipe ideas.

The first is the world’s greatest oatmeal cookie recipe as given to me by my dear friend Alli.

The recipe is normally made with dried cranberries, but seemed like it might be the perfect base for some juicy blueberries.

Not only do these cookies have blueberries, but they also have white chocolate chips and pecans!

Verdict: These cookies were delicious! However, they were not blueberry-icious. The blueberries seemed to get lost in all of the cookie dough, oatmeal, pecan, white chocolate goodness. Maybe it speaks to the strength of the recipe or maybe just to the weakness of the blueberries, but either way, it wasn’t a match made in Heaven. If you make this recipe (and I definitely think you should), I would suggest making it with the dried fruit of your choice. My personal favorite is dried cranberries which truly are a perfect match for the white chocolate chips. I’m still giving these cookies a good Nom-rating because, I was definitely nom-ing these cookies fresh out the oven, but I’m hoping that second blueberry cookie recipe turns out a bit stronger.

I LOVE white chocolate in cookies! I made white chocolate and lemon cookies a while back, and they were probably the best cookies Ive ever eaten. Less healthy than these though!

What a cool flavor combo! I absolutely LOVE my mom’s blueberry muffin recipe and use frozen berries, too. They are so much cheaper and the wild ones are incredibly flavorful. I also love eating them with yogurt (either Greek, vanilla, or plain) and a little granola – breakfast of champions!

Kacey, thanks for the recipe! I ended up making two batches of the cookies: one batch with fresh blueberries and one batch with dried blueberries. The batch with the dried blueberries turned out better and not being a huge blueberry person, I loved how the flavor was subtle. The only complaint I have is dried blueberries are way more expensive. Perhaps a tutorial on how to dry your own blueberries???
