Thing #1: Om&Nom’s very first giveaway winner is…..Emily Vallaster!
In her response to the giveaway post, Emily linked a video that she had seen recently and now I want to share it with you. It’s definitely worth watching!
Thing #2: I saw something really fun on my morning run today and since it made me smile, I thought I’d share it with you:)
There were tree sweaters on all of the trees along one of the streets in downtown Bartlesville.
Each of the trees had a little card attached that read, “OK Mozart Avenue has been Yarn Bombed by the Bartlesville Knit and Fiber Guild and Friends! Have a wonderful season!”
There were so many different designs, but my favorite was the one in front of Weeze’s Cafe!
Awesome Burger: Ever since Mr. Torres and I watched the documentary Forks Over Knives, we have been trying to eat a more plant-based diet.
The main premise of the documentary is that many of the health problems that we face today are due, at least in part, to the large amounts of meat and dairy products that we consume. Although I have always been more of a fruit, veggie and peanut butter type of girl, whenever I would mention that topic of vegetarianism to Mr. Torres, I would get shut down faster than you could say hamburger. However, after watching the documentary, he agreed to limiting the amount of animal products we consume.
Breakfast was easy as we usually just have cereal or oatmeal or the like.

Lunch was easy since I usually have lots of fruit and a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Mr. Torres eats lunch at the cafeteria at work and still eats meat for this meal, but has decreased the amount.

Dinner was the really the only meal to change much at all and, overall, it’s been fun trying new recipes and getting used to different types of veggies.
Annnd, we still eat Daddy K’s grilled burgers and lots of ice cream for dessert…no one’s perfect, right?
This burger recipe was one that I found on Jessica’s blog and has become one of our new favorites!

Verdict: These burgers are easy to make and delicious! I usually make up a double batch, individually wrap the extras and then freeze them so that they are ready whenever we want a quick meal! However, if you are looking for a veggie burger that has the taste and texture of a regular hamburger, these are not what you’re looking for. But, if you’re looking for a fairly simple, delicious, healthy burger, then look no further!
Nom-Rating: ***** (5/5)

Thanks for the burger recipe. I think we’re going to try it for one of our meatless nights. Last summer, we started having three meatless nights a week not just for health purposes, but also to cut down on the cost of groceries. So worth it!
I loved the picture of the sweater outside Weezes… made me homesick.
The link doesn’t work for Jessica’s burger … not sure what happened!
But I would love to try these. We’ve been trying to eat less meat since watching that movie, as well. Actually, we really need to watch it again because I think we’ve both slowly gone back ot eating more meat and processed stuff because we’ve FORGOTTEN what we watched!
Thanks for letting me know about the link…I think I fixed it:) Another great documentary that we watched about eating less meat was Vegucated or Vegecated…something like that. I definitely had to close my eyes during parts, but it talks more about the ethical reasons to eat less meat.
Those veggie burgers look DELICIOUS! I’m going to have to check into the link and see what I can do about it- I can’t find veggie burgers anywhere around where I live; it is seriously pretty much the beef capital… Those tree sweaters- TOO FUNNY!
I’ve never tasted a veggie burger that I really liked but that one looks delicious.
That looks amazing! If I could get the hubs to agree, we would be trying this healthier option, but we all know my man and I love our meats and cheeses! and lets not forget desserts
But seriously, chick peas have become a new favorite of mine. Finally ate them on my first day of work a couple of months ago and am hooked! Why I waited so long to try them I wll never know.
