After leaving the campsite, Mr. Torres and I headed to Mt. Hood.
Mt. Hood is Oregon’s tallest mountain and home to Timberline Lodge, a Works Progress Administration project that was completed during the Depression.

It’s been happening quite a bit lately.
It wasn’t really a big deal during the school year.
With school and grading and soccer games, I was pretty busy most of the time.
But now that it’s summer, things are different.
How about a little randomness to finish off the weekend? I feel like sharing a little bit of the excitement that has been going on around the Torres house:)
In honor of Earth Day, Mr. Torres and I went to Lowe’s and picked out some plants to put in our courtyard.
A chocolate basil plant…
The Pecan and Molasses Cheesecake Bars took 3rd place in their category. There’s nothing wrong with third place…until you realize there were only two other entries to compete against. Sigh.
Mama K took 3rd place with her pecan pie. What were the judges thinking?!? I could tell just by looking at it, that her pecan pie was worlds better than the other entries.
Daddy K also took 3rd place with his spiced pecans and then snagged a 2nd place award with his granola which I sampled after the competition and found it to be absolutely perfect.
Not everyone has a sister who decides to live overseas for a year and then brings back new and exciting pastas from her time in Italy. But I do and she did and I simply can’t wait to cook up something scrumptious using my straight-from-Italy, it-doesn’t-get-any-more-authentic-than-this orecchiette! Thanks, Linny!
