Food for Friends: Candy Bar Cookies

Nom-rating: ***** (5/5)

Printable Recipe

Mr. Torres and I are helping some friends move into their new house this evening and I thought it would be lovely to have a snack to take so that we don’t get hungry while we’re working:)

Despite the fact that I think cooking is the most fun when you’re trying to make something new, there a few recipes that are so good that they just keep getting made over and over again.

Sad News…and a new wreath

1 May

Much to our disappointment, Mr. Torres and I got the call on Monday that we did not have the winning bid on our house :(

Or, rather, THE house.

Which has now become SOMEONE ELSE’S house.

We were sad, but, really, we made our bid, said our prayers and now we have to stick to the fact that we believed that if it was God’s will for us to have the house, then it would be ours.

And if it wasn’t God’s will, then we wouldn’t win.

So now, we’re just looking forward to what He has in store for us!

Aaaannnnddd, on a completely unrelated (and less disappointing) note…

I made a new wreath today.

I was really liking it until I was looking at the pictures and now I feel like it might be a bit bottom heavy.

This one may need a makeover already, but it will work for now:)

Waiting!

26 Apr

After much thought and many estimates and lots of number-crunching, Mr. Torres and I decided to make a bid on the HUD house that we found last weekend. Exciting!

Purchasing a HUD house is quite a bit different from buying a normal house. Instead of entering into negotiations to find a suitable agreement that benefits both parties, it’s a bit more of a guessing game.

The house went on the market last Wednesday. We looked on Thursday. We made a bid on Tuesday and now we wait until Monday.

All bids are due by tomorrow (Friday) at which time they will sell the house to the highest bidder.

So if no one else is bidding, you can get a steal. But if other people are interested, it’s a bit more competitive. The bad part?

You have no way of knowing if you’re the only one or one of many:P

So we made a bid that we were comfortable with, said a prayer and now we’re waiting!

Excited, nervous and thinking we may be in over our heads!

It’s quite a fixer-upper:)

A Weekend View

22 Apr

How about a little randomness to finish off the weekend? I feel like sharing a little bit of the excitement that has been going on around the Torres house:)

In honor of Earth Day, Mr. Torres and I went to Lowe’s and picked out some plants to put in our courtyard.

A chocolate basil plant…
